Tiruchi to Sharjah Flight Experiences Hydraulic Failure

On October 12, 2024, a senior official from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) arrived at Tiruchi International Airport to investigate an emergency landing involving an Air India Express flight bound for Sharjah. The incident occurred on October 11, 2024, when the aircraft experienced a technical glitch due to hydraulic failure shortly after takeoff.

Investigation Underway

The DGCA official is conducting a thorough examination of the aircraft to identify the root cause of the hydraulic failure. This includes reviewing the communication records between the flight's pilot and the Air Traffic Control Tower. Interviews with the flight engineers and pilot are also expected as part of the investigation, according to airport sources. The affected aircraft is currently stationed at Tiruchi Airport, and a comprehensive report will be submitted to DGCA authorities in New Delhi.

Passenger Arrangements

In light of the emergency landing, alternative arrangements were made for the Sharjah-bound passengers. An additional flight, arriving from Thiruvananthapuram airport, facilitated their journey early Saturday morning. A total of 108 passengers, including three infants, boarded the new flight, which departed around 1:45 a.m. Furthermore, 20 passengers opted to change their travel dates, while 15 chose to cancel their journeys. Full refunds will be provided for those who canceled.
